Frequently Asked Questions - PayKiosks Wi-Fi Internet
Terminals
1. What is Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi is a generic term for a wireless communication protocol that allows
users with wireless enabled laptops or wireless enable PDA’s to
access the Internet without physically “plugging in” to
the a network connection.
2. How large a WiFi network will
the terminal create?
A stock terminal will create a wireless network in an approximate 200
– 300ft radius around the Internet terminal. However, by employing
PayKiosks Powerline and CableLAN devices allow the wireless network
to be easily and inexpensively expanded by installing multiple access
points each connected back to the terminal using either the building’s
electrical wires or coaxial (TV) cable. Our CableLAN products are capable
of creating complete wireless coverage in even the largest hotels.
3. How many users can use the wireless
network at one time?
Up to 100 concurrent users may use the wireless network at any one time.
4. How much would it cost to Wi-Fi
an entire hotel?
The cost depends on the size, layout and structure of the hotel. Typically
the hardware required to create a wireless network that will provide
coverage for a 200 – 300 room hotel will cost $3,000 to $4,000
in addition to the price of the Internet terminal. Because our Wi-Fi
systems are scalable it is possible to begin with partial hotel coverage
and expand the size of network gradually.
5. If I purchase an Internet terminal
am I obligated to purchase additional wireless gear?
Absolutely not. However, most customers prefer to purchase additional
access points in order to increase the size of their wireless network
and thereby increase their revenue potential.
6. Do I need to be a computer wiz
to operate a terminal?
No. Although some of our customers do have a technical background it
is absolutely not necessary.
7. Will PayKiosks help provide
advertisers for my terminal?
Our designers can provide assistance creating advertising content and
loading the completed advertisement onto the terminal but it is up to
the purchaser to source and secure their own advertisers.
8. How are my locations chosen?
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to secure their own locations.
Our Product Advisors and support staff are available to provide advice
and education in order to enable the purchaser to secure their own locations.
9. How much money will a terminal
produce?
The amount of money that a terminal will produce depends completely
on the viability of location in which the terminal is placed and on
the purchaser's ability to operate their business.
10. Do I need to open a merchant
account to accept credit cards?
No, credit cards are processed through the software without the need
for the terminal owner to setup a merchant account. This greatly reduces
the Internet terminal expenses as maintaining a merchant account can
cost upwards of $50/month.
"The hotel industry was more or less
forced to jump on the Wi-Fi bandwagon. Customers were demanding
it, and if a hotel didn't have it, they went elsewhere."
